SC DOT Media Advisory: The South Carolina Department of Transportation and C. R. Jackson will begin construction on Alice Drive in Sumter on August 6, 2018. This project is part of SCDOTâs strategic ten-year plan. This project will consist of roadway widening, sidewalk repair, and roadway patching and resurfacing. The construction is anticipated to take approximately three weeks, depending on the weather conditions. Construction will begin at Haile Street and proceed to West Liberty street. Please expect lane closures, heavy traffic, time delays and intersecting road closures.
The following roads will be closed at their intersections with Alice Drive in order to safely control traffic: Kenilworth Street, Sunset Avenue, Dorn Street, Baldwin Street, Wren Street, Arnold Street, and Owens Street. These roads will be blocked at their intersections with Alice Drive and will be routed to Phelps Street to exit either at Adams Street or onto Liberty Street. Covington Street, Reynolds Road, Snowden Street, and Conyers Street will be closed at their intersections with Alice Drive and will be routed to Covington street to exit at Haile Street or to Pringle Street to exit at Wise Drive. Haynsworth Street and Burns Drive will be closed at their intersection with Alice Drive and routed to Robbins street to exit at Adams Avenue. Baldwin/Aldersgate will be closed at its intersection with Alice Drive and routed to Garrett Street to exit at Miller Road. Right and left turns will be severely limited from Alice Drive onto Miller road at times as well as right and left turns from Miller onto Alice Drive. Please see the attached map.
Please choose alternate routes to avoid this section of Alice Drive during this time period if at all possible. Closure lengths will vary with the type and location of the work.
