Sumter 2040 Draft Comprehensive Plan Available For Public Review

SUMTER, SC (August 8, 2019) – The Sumter City – County Planning Commission has released a full draft of the Sumter 2040 Comprehensive Plan for public review and comment.

The purpose of the 2040 Plan, mandated under South Carolina State Law, is to guide growth and development in the Sumter community.

“The plan represents Sumter’s collective land use vision for the future,” stated George McGregor, Planning Director. “It is a policy directive laying out community goals related to housing, transportation, economic development, community facilities, design and land use.”

Over the last year, the planning process has included numerous public meetings, a citizen survey, and other interactions with citizens and stakeholders.  The plan can be found at www.sumter2040.com.

The Planning Commission will review the draft in August and September, with recommendations forwarded to City and County Council in time for public hearings in October 2019.

The public is invited to send comments on the draft plan directly to the Planning Department, via email at planning@sumtersc.gov.
