Statement on Hurricane Idalia from Mayor David Merchant:
City crews have been working for days in preparation for a possible weather event. We have been working with our partners at SCDOT to clean the area’s storm drains, as well as checking the levels in our waterways in preparation for the rainfall from the storm. Mayor Merchant is urging all citizens to please stay home in a safe place and off the roadways during the storm. We want to keep all of our citizens safe, including our public safety team. Although there are still uncertainties associated with this storm, our team is poised and ready to do what needs to be done to restore normal operations. Stay safe, Sumter.
