Proclamation "South Carolina PTA Day"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The PTA has been advocating for the health, safety, education, protection, and general welfare of children and youth for over 100 years. The PTA represents parents, educators, community leaders and anyone concerned with the welfare of children and youth. The South Carolina PTA, with a membership of over eighty-four thousand, serves as a powerful voice for all children and a relevant resource for families and communities. The South Carolina PTA Annual Convention is held to build strong local PTA units by giving members the opportunity to connect with other PTA members from around the state, engage in educational training opportunities, and share valuable resources and community contacts. The South Carolina PTA Annual Convention will be held at Sumter High School in Sumter, South Carolina on April 8th and 9th, 2011.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Joseph T. McElveen, Jr., Mayor of the City of Sumter, South Carolina, do hereby proclaim, April 9th, 2011 as:

“SOUTH CAROLINA PTA DAY”
in the
CITY OF SUMTER

and urge all citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions, and businesses in the City of Sumter to support the South Carolina PTA and all local PTA units in their efforts to support and advocate on behalf of children and youth, assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect children, and encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.
